THE SERIES
Balance restored.
The ocean holds vast restorative powers. I grew up on this coast — Newport Beach, Balboa Island — and return to it the way one returns to anything essential. What I find there shifts each time, shaped as much by what I carry to the water as by what the water offers. These figures did not know I was there. I did not ask what brought them to the edge. I didn't need to. I recognized something in the way they stood — the particular quality of attention people bring to the ocean when they have come to it for a reason.
In the first image, they approach, compelled. The second finds them collected at equal distance, facing the horizon in full submission — absorbing, asking nothing further of the moment. The third catches them after, recharged, already turning back toward each other, the world rejoined. In the fourth, another steps forward to the same edge. The ritual commences.
